Defense Acquisition Challenge Project Awarded to PEC to Investigate Performance of High Strength Glazing

The Office of the Secretary of Defense Comparative Technology Office has selected Protection Engineering Consultants, in cooperation with PPG Industries and Physical Security LLC, to perform research and development in the use of high strength glass in protection applications.  Dr. Peter Votruba-Drzal is leading this effort at PEC.  The year-long effort is being conducted to design and validate Herculite® XP glass in window systems meant for commercial availability to DoD installations providing services, training and medical treatment for our warfighters worldwide.  The cognizant agency is the Air Force Research Laboratory’s - Airbase Technologies Division (AFRL/RXQ).  Static glass capacity tests will be performed at PEC’s Austin laboratory, while shock tube and full scale blast tests will be conducted at local commercial and AFRL facilities.  Pete Drzal at PEC can provide further information.
