PEC awarded contract for human injury gap study
Spring Branch, Texas, August 28 -- Protection Engineering Consultants has been awarded a contract by Northrop Grumman Information Technology (NGIT) to help the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) better understand the capabilities and limitations of the existing DTRA and non-DTRA models relative to human injury predictions, the details of ongoing injury research within and outside of DTRA, and DTRA's proper role in the injury research and modeling community.
In the first task of the Human Injury Gap Study (HIGS), information was gathered on available methods and computer codes to predict human injury from explosions, radiological-nuclear effects and chemical-biological weapon effects. This effort included discussions with more than 35 researchers and government engineers as well as searches of on-line information and published literature.
The objective of the second task is to assess and identify the gaps in human injury modeling and research that are of importance to DTRA. Once the gaps and their relative importance are identified and agreed to, a research plan will be developed in the third task to address DTRA’s needs and to identify the areas where DTRA is best suited to develop data and improved models. A second plan will define the integration that is needed to keep DTRA involved with other injury R&D organizations, so as to leverage and enhance DTRA’s work and results.
