PEC awarded contract for Progressive Collapse Unified Facilities and GSA Criteria and Study
Spring Branch, Texas, August 28 -- Protection Engineering Consultants has been awarded a contract through the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS) and the Naval Facilities Command (NAVFAC) to update and integrate the Department of Defense and General Services Administration’s design approaches to resist progressive collapse.
The first level of integration will be based on standardizing various direct and indirect design methods. Currently, requirements for some of the design approaches vary by agency, and the GSA does not employ indirect design approaches. Protection Engineering Consultants will address differences in approach and guidance provided by the two organizations and provide updated guidance on a number of technical issues related to progressive collapse mitigation.
