PEC acquires shock wave physics code capabilities
Spring Branch, Texas, Dec. 15 -- Engineers at Protection Engineering Consultants announced that they have acquired CTH, a software system used to simulate high-speed impact/explosion and penetration phenomena, to support detailed analysis of shock physics problems.
Developed by Sandia National Laboratories, CTH enables users to study weapon effects, armor/anti-armor interactions, warhead design, high-explosive initiation physics and weapon safety considerations. The system is also used in national missile defense, hazardous material dispersal by explosive detonation, weapon components design and reactive materials research.
CTH includes models for multiphase, elastic-viscoplastic, porous and explosive materials. Three-dimensional rectangular meshes, two-dimensional rectangular and cylindrical meshes, and one-dimensional rectilinear, cylindrical, and spherical meshes are available.
CTH employs second-order accurate numerical methods to reduce dispersion and dissipation. Preprocessing and color graphic post-processing programs are provided.
