Protection Engineering Consultants
awarded ACRP research project
Spring Branch, Texas, Sept. 20 -- Protection Engineering Consultants associates have been working since May 2007 on a research project awarded by the Airport Cooperative Research Program office of the Transportation Research Board to investigate Improved Civil Aircraft Arresting Systems.
The objective of the project is to advance the development of alternative civil aircraft arresting systems that safely decelerate an aircraft overrunning a runway. The research will identify and evaluate the most promising alternatives to the existing FAA-approved system (EMAS), identify the steps that must be taken to have such alternatives approved for use at a civil airport in the United States, and identify barriers that may preclude manufacturers from making the alternative solutions commercially available. For more information, see "Developing Improved Civil Aircraft Arresting Systems" at the Transportation Research Board web site.
