Protection Engineering Consultants prepares for
bridge pier tests as part of NCHRP 12-72 project
Spring Branch, Texas, Sept. 20 -- In cooperation with the University of Texas at Austin, Modjeski and Masters, Southwest Research Institute and the Army Corps of Engineers Engineering Research and Development Center at WES (ERDC), Protection Engineering Consultants associates have designed and are constructing 1:2 scale bridge piers and a large reaction structure for blast tests of bridge piers in support of the NCHRP 12-72 project.
Piers are nearly complete and tests using explosive charges of up to 650 pounds will begin in October. Results of the tests will be used to develop and validate approaches for improved details for blast resistance and for more accurate vulnerability calculations.
