Davis, Nelson, Bowles join
Protection Engineering Consultants

Austin, Texas, October 15 -- Protection Engineering Consultants today announced the recent additions of three new members to its staff.

Carrie E. Davis joined Protection Engineering Consultants as Associate Engineer in July 2008 and performs blast-resistant analysis and design for a variety of projects. Her recent work includes assessment of polymer reinforced masonry walls exposed to blast loads. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural Engineering and a Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, where her research and thesis focused on the development of blast-resistant design and detailing guidelines for reinforced concrete bridge columns.

Lawrence J. Nelson joined Protection Engineering Consultants as Associate Engineer in September 2008. A US Marine Corps veteran, he conducted vehicle checkpoints and base security operations as Corporal of the Guard while an infantryman during Operation Iraqi Freedom II. In addition, he assisted in the training of Iraqi security forces and the assessment of high-risk operations. Mr. Nelson earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Texas A&M University and is pursuing a master’s degree in structural engineering at the University of Texas at San Antonio.

Patricia K. Bowles joined Protection Engineering Consultants as Staff Scientist in October 2008, bringing 31 years of expertise in blast and fragment hazards prediction and analysis. She began her career in 1977 at Southwest Research Institute (SwRI), followed by eight years at the Advanced Technology Office for Applied Research Associates, Inc. Ms. Bowles has managed numerous projects in the area of blast and fragment hazards prediction for explosives safety studies and hazards analyses, including the development of the DISPRE model, the expanded DISPRE2 model, and the ESAS model. In addition, she has developed a fragment penetration model for soft targets, conducted impact tests for the design of vehicle armors, and developed a mobile, lightweight doorway barrier to prevent enemy access or egress.
