PEC earns SBIR award to develop mine blast model for USMC Systems Command
Austin, Texas, July 22 -- Protection Engineering Consultants has been awarded a Phase I SBIR (Small Business Innovation Research) contract from the US Marine Corps Systems Command for research into mine blast effects and development of a model to aid in injury mitigation.
Senior Principal Dr. David Stevens will direct PEC's investigation into the effect of non-centerline IED/mine blast on crew survivability and the development of a physics-based model to assist in the design of safety components for injury mitigation in wheeled and tracked vehicles. The six-month Phase I SBIR effort will focus on the numbers, types and severity of injuries sustained by military personnel embarked in MRAP, MTVR and other vehicles, and on models and algorithms for injury environment simulation validated by existing live fire test data such as floor, seat, wall and roof accelerations.
