Community

As a business, we’ve enjoyed success. As a member of the wider community, we want to extend the benefits of this success through charitable efforts both locally and worldwide. While PEC staff members contribute individually to charitable organizations and activities, together we annually designate a portion of our year-end profits to two organizations that serve individuals and communities in need.

Engineers Without Borders-USA is a nonprofit humanitarian organization that partners with developing communities worldwide to improve their quality of life. This partnership is comprehensive: it implements sustainable engineering projects, involves internationally responsible engineers and trains engineering students. EWB-USA activities range from constructing sustainable, community-owned and -operated systems to empowering such communities by enhancing local, technical, managerial and entrepreneurial skills.

The M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, has a simple mission: to eliminate cancer. For 60 years, they’ve built a worldwide reputation for excellence in cancer patient care, research, education and prevention. Their work includes integrated programs in cancer treatment, clinical trials, education programs and cancer prevention. Our interest in M.D. Anderson arose, in part, when a senior staff member lost a loved one to cancer. Today, we’re more committed than ever. We even send our clients holiday cards created by pediatric cancer patients in the M.D. Anderson Children’s Arts Project.

The leadership and employees at PEC are also keen to support local charities and agencies in our hometowns of Austin and San Antonio.  As selected by our staff, recent support has been provided for three additional charities that have had a positive impact on our families and communities:  the San Antonio Christian Assistance Ministries, the Austin Society of St Vincent de Paul , and the Dripping Springs Helping Hands .

We also earnestly and selfishly desire success for organizations that serve our own employees in times of need.   For Sr. Engineer Matt Barsotti, that organization was the Meningitis Foundation of America.  Our support for the Meningitis Foundation of America comes this past year after rejoicing with the parents of beautiful Paisley Barsotti following her successful recovery from infantile meningitis when she was just over a week old.  Paisley thrives now, and our sincere wish is that, through successful education and awareness created by organizations like the Meningitis Foundation of America, more infants and children may avoid the devastation of this disease.  We invite you to view an interpretation of Paisley’s journey through the words (crafted by Paisley’s daddy Matt) and music at http://youtu.be/2o_tnmGtCVs.
