We are delighted to announce that Dr. Bryan Bewick will join the staff of Protection Engineering Consultants as a Project Engineer in May of 2012.  Dr. Bewick comes to PEC after several years as a Technical Lead and Research Civil Engineer at the Air Force Research Laboratory at Tyndall AFB, Florida.  At AFRL, Bryan led and managed projects and programs in the Engineering Mechanics Section of the Airbase Technologies Division, specializing in blast resistant structures research including retrofits for blast protection, innovative materials for blast mitigation, blast loads in complicated terrains, and computational modeling of structural designs subjected to blast loads and the blast environment.  Bryan brings laboratory test experience and computational expertise to PEC.  He is computationally fluent with LS-DYNA, CTH, DYSMAS, ALE3D, and SHAMRC, as well as engineering codes and design tools.  Bryan has supported many government agencies and companies in his research roles with AFRL and Applied Research Associates in recent years.  Many of those agencies and companies are past and current PEC customers as well.  Bryan, his wife and their children will be relocating to the Austin area and he will work at the PEC office in Southwest Austin.

Protection Engineering Consultants will again offer our foundational Blast Resistance for Anti-Terrorism Short Course in San Antonio from October 8 - 11, 2012.  The course, updated to include changes in DoD and ISC Criteria, will be taught at the Drury Plaza Hotel Riverwalk in San Antonio and will include the hands on computer approaches and shock tube demonstration popular with previous attendees.  Please check for further updates on our Training page.

Baktosh (Tosh) Edrisi has joined Protection Engineering Consultants as an Associate Mechanical Engineer.  Tosh completed his education at the University of Texas San Antonio in December of 2011 and joins us after several years as an undergraduate and graduate intern.  Tosh brings mechanical design and analysis capabilities to PEC as well as significant programming and code development experience.  Tosh will primarily support ongoing research projects at PEC and will continue to support SBEDS and SBEDS-W development in support of PEC Sr. Principal Dr. Chuck Oswald.  We are excited to have Tosh with us full time.

Dr. Peter Votruba-Drzal has elected to leave Protection Engineering Consultants to return to industry in the capacity of materials researcher and developer in the elastomer, eyewear, and specialty materials fields.  Our association with Peter has been valuable and mutually beneficial and we will miss his collaborative and creative spirit.  For inquiries related to PEC pursuits that have involved Peter, please contact Kirk Marchand, Managing Principal at PEC at kmarchand@protection-consultants.com, or 512.380.1988x1.  Peter can be reached in days ahead at drzalpeter@gmail.com or 240-449-9897.
