PEC engineers and software developers have announced a new tool called WhAM (Window hazard Analysis Module) that fully integrates a statistical glass fracture modeling approach into a finite element formulation for glass, laminated glass and structural and nonstructural elements (mullions, muntins and connections). Successful validation has shown the tool effective for design and analysis of multi-lite storefront and curtainwall configurations. The flexibility of the finite element integration (LS-DYNA) allows non-rectangular and out-of-plane configurations to be evaluated for wind, blast, seismic and impact loads. Future developments will include point supported glazing and curved glass implementation. Be on the lookout soon for a PEC webinar on the services that we can provide with this powerful tool.
