Award of DOT SBIR for Resilient Wayside Structures and Passenger Car Survivability

Protection Engineering Consultants (PEC) was recently awarded a US Department of Transportation (DOT) Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I contract to develop design concepts for resilient wayside structures that reduce the risk of passenger casualties in the event of train derailments and other events.  PEC is working with Arup to develop and evaluate concepts that include energy absorption, reduced strength and stiffness, and controlled failure mechanisms.  PEC is excited by this opportunity to continue our contributions to transportation safety and to work with the DOT and Arup on a project with significant potential to make rail travel even safer.  For more information on this important project, please contact Eric Sammarco.
