PEC Senior Principal Chuck Oswald, Ph.D., P.E., was featured in the July/August 2016 edition of Engineering Inc. by ACEC for his work on the performance of precast reinforced concrete panels subjected to blast loads, performed for the U.S. Department of State.

Dr. Oswald, P.E., and the PEC team analyzed precast RC panels under blast loads, devised and oversaw a series of tests at the Air Force Research Laboratory at Eglin AFB, Florida, and provided recommendations for improved design of these common structural components.  This work was performed as part of a larger project to optimize the design and performance of reinforced concrete components for Department of State Buildings. It can also be used by the Department of Defense to improve design requirements for blast-resistant buildings.

In the article Dr. Oswald P.E., provides more detail pertaining to the analysis, design, and test process and what the next steps might be for the Department of State.
