PEC engineers supported Physical Security, LLC as the facade engineer and specialty structural engineer (SSE) on the Shaw Air Force Base (AFB) Medical Center in Sumter, South Carolina. Our engineers were responsible for design of glazing, storefront and curtainwall systems enclosing the new 116,750 sf facility and coordinating all facade elements and their bracing, connections, reactions and integration with the structure. Physical Security is an owner-operated contract glazing company in Bessemer, Alabama. They fabricate, assemble and glaze curtainwall in Bessemer to support field installation operations nationwide. Physical Security has expanded their blast resistant glazing system offerings to encompass the retrofitting and reglazing of high-rise buildings and the manufacture and installation of facades for healthcare, commercial, mixed use and institutional buildings.
Protection Engineering Consultants, as the facade engineer and specialty structural engineer (SSE), was responsible for comprehensive design services including gravity, wind, seismic and blast-resistant design of the facade on this $38.7M Walsh Federal (contractor) project. By providing comprehensive engineering and coordination services in the design of the façade, engineering, material and construction costs were reduced and the design schedule was able to be accelerated.
We are proud and appreciative of our continuing relationship with Physical Security and the DoD medical community. For more information on comprehensive facade and building envelope design and detailing and our other specialty structural engineer (SSE) services, please contact Aldo McKay, PE at PEC.
