Duncan McGeehan joined Protection Engineering Consultants (PEC) as a Senior Associate Engineer I in January 2022. Before joining PEC, Duncan spent three years working as a structural engineering consultant. Duncan specialized in finite element modeling of non-traditional structures and structures subjected to irregular loading which required more detailed analysis. Duncan worked on a variety of projects for commercial clients and government agencies in the science and defense industry as well as the nuclear energy industry. Duncan also developed internal software tools to assist engineers with the structural analysis and design of concrete structures.
Duncan received a Bachelor’s degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering, as well as a Master’s degree with an emphasis on Structural Engineering at the University of New Hampshire (UNH). In his Master’s program, Duncan’s research focused on high-cycle fatigue testing of a novel steel connection. The research included, cyclic fatigue testing, nonlinear Finite Element (FE) modeling, Digital Image Correlation (DIC), residual stress measurements, and the development of a high-cycle fatigue testing monitoring protocol.
Duncan is proficient with computational tools (Python) and applied statistics as well as a variety of analysis tools (ANSYS, Abaqus, NASTRAN, OpenSees). Duncan will be supporting PEC and our clients on applied research and machine learning efforts.
