Job Description

Protection Engineering Consultants (PEC) is a unique and diverse small-business engineering firm, headquartered in Texas.  PEC is globally recognized as an industry pioneer in the areas of design, applied research, advanced modeling and simulation, assessment and testing for the protection of people, systems, and infrastructure against natural and man-made hazards, extreme accident scenarios, and deliberate attacks.  We provide structural and mechanical engineering services; perform high-fidelity physics-based modeling; oversee material-level and full-scale physical testing; assess risks and devise novel mitigation solutions; and, provide training. We work domestically and internationally.

We are looking for a creative and motivated structural/mechanical engineer who can support our advanced technology and applied research projects. The candidate should have some experience and/or course work in structural dynamics, numerical analysis, and computational modeling. The preferred candidate will have capabilities in one or more of the following areas: nonlinear dynamic analysis using LS-DYNA or other first-principles finite element codes, laboratory testing, and programming in Python or other scientific languages. Structural design experience and project/research experience in the area of natural hazards mitigation are both desirable, but not required.

Qualifications

  • MS or PhD in Structural Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
  • No professional experience required, but PE/SE licensure is a plus.
  • Course work or experience in structural dynamics, numerical analysis, and computational modeling. Ability to support structural design work is a plus, but not required.
  • Ability to clearly communicate verbal and written technical information.
  • US citizen.

Protection Engineering Consultants (PEC) is a unique and diverse small-business engineering firm, headquartered in Central Texas.  PEC’s services range from design, research, analysis, assessment and testing of critical infrastructure subject to blast, weapons effects, vehicle impact, forced entry attack and natural hazards to security consulting and risk mitigation support.  We provide structural and mechanical engineering services; create specialized software and data science solutions for defense and anti-terrorism applications; perform multi-physics numerical modeling; develop, oversee and perform nonlinear and dynamic testing; develop criteria for protective applications; and, provide training. We work domestically and internationally.

Protection Engineering Consultants is looking for a creative and motivated structural engineer who can support our advanced technology and applied research projects and is also interested in structural design.  The candidate should have some experience and/or course work in structural design (steel, concrete, and masonry), structural dynamics, numerical analysis, and computational modeling.  The preferred candidate will have capabilities in one or more of the following areas:  laboratory testing, nonlinear dynamic analysis, design with AutoCAD and/or Revit, familiarity with Python or other programming languages, and structural design for extreme loading conditions.

Your role initially will be to provide support for our ongoing advanced technology and applied research efforts.  We will provide opportunities and encouragement for you to develop your technical skills and to grow into project management, marketing, and business development, as your interests dictate.

Job Description

We are looking for a creative and motivated modeling and simulation engineer/scientist, who can support our advanced technology and applied research projects. The candidate must have experience (academic or work-related) in applying and/or developing state-of-the-art numerical modeling tools, for solid dynamics and fluid dynamics applications.  Experience modeling extreme loads and highly nonlinear material response is preferred and course work in structural dynamics, numerical analysis, and computational modeling is expected. The successful candidate will have capabilities in one or more of the following areas: nonlinear dynamic analysis using LS-DYNA, CTH, ABAQUS, ANSYS, ALE3D, EPIC, DYSMAS, or other first-principles high-fidelity, physics-based codes; laboratory testing; and programming in Python or other scientific languages.  Familiarity with and application of data analytic techniques and open-source software is a plus.
