Protection Engineering Consultants (PEC) is a unique and diverse small-business engineering firm, headquartered in South Texas.  PEC’s services range from security consulting and risk mitigation support to the design, research, analysis and testing of protective structures subjected to extreme loads, such as weapons effects, blast, vehicle impact, forced entry attack and natural hazards.  We provide structural and mechanical engineering services; use machine learning (ML) and uncertainty quantification (UQ) techniques to deliver novel solutions to engineering problems; create specialized software for defense and anti-terrorism applications; perform advanced numerical modeling; develop, oversee and perform nonlinear and dynamic testing; develop criteria for protective applications; and, provide training. We work domestically and internationally.

PEC is in search of a creative and motivated numerical analyst/research engineer who can support our advanced technology and applied research projects. The candidate must have experience (academic or work-related) in applying and/or developing state-of-the-art numerical modeling tools, for solid dynamics and fluid dynamics applications.  Experience modeling extreme loads and highly nonlinear material response is preferred and course work in structural dynamics, numerical analysis, and computational modeling is expected. The ideal candidate will have capabilities in one or more of the following areas: nonlinear dynamic analysis using LS-DYNA, CTH, ABAQUS, ANSYS, DYSMAS, OpenFoam, or other first-principles high-fidelity, physics-based codes; laboratory testing; and programming in Python or other scientific languages.  Familiarity with and application of data analytic techniques and open-source software is a plus.

Your role initially will be to provide support for our ongoing efforts.  We will provide opportunities for you to grow technically as well as expand into project management, marketing, and business development responsibilities as your interests dictate.

Qualifications

  • MS or PhD in Engineering, Physics, or Math.
  • US citizen.
  • Recent graduates are welcomed, but work experience is a plus.
  • Course work or experience in structural dynamics, numerical analysis, and computational modeling.
  • Programming in Python or other scientific languages.
  • Ability to clearly communicate verbal and written technical information.

Protection Engineering Consultants is looking for a creative and motivated structural engineer who can support our Façade and Structures group with building design projects and is also interested in applied research for structural and mechanical engineering applications.  The candidate should have some experience and/or course work in structural design (steel, concrete, and masonry), structural dynamics, numerical analysis, and computational modeling.  While experience in designing structures for extreme loads is a plus, PEC will train you in this area.  Experience with SAP2000 (or similar structural analysis software), AutoCAD and or Revit is preferred but not required. Programming experience with Python or other languages is also of interest.

Your role initially will be to provide support for our ongoing design efforts.  We will provide opportunities and encouragement for you to develop your technical skills and to grow into project management, marketing, and business development, as your interests dictate.

Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Structural or Civil Engineering.
  • No professional experience required, but PE licensure is a plus.
  • Course work or experience in structural design (steel, concrete, and masonry), structural dynamics, numerical analysis, and computational modeling.

PEC is in search of a creative and motivated physical security professional who can support our security consulting and design projects. The ideal candidate must have the experience and certifications described below as well as a strong independent work ethic. Experience as a physical security practitioner outside of federal, state, and local government service is expected. The ideal candidate will have the ability of producing both concise narrative documents as well as detailed design drawings in AutoCAD, Revit, and similar software. This position requires a clear understanding of the installation and implementation of such systems into an overall facility security program.

The selected candidate will provide support for ongoing efforts as well as integrate into project management, marketing, and business development activities on the security consulting team.

Qualifications

  • CPP or PSP (ASIS International) required within one year of hire.
  • Minimum five years providing independent and subjective physical security analysis and / or design services directly to clients.
  • Strong understanding of physical security technology including cutting / bleeding edge.
  • Minimum of 2 years using AutoCAD and/or Revit and high proficiency with Microsoft Office software required. Experience using BIM and / or camera view creation software (e.g. Navisworks) preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with an emphasis on the ability to organize and present design information to clients in a non-jargon format.
  • Technical aptitude, attention to detail and work quality, and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Due to project / client requirements, US citizenship is required.

As we continue to expand our services, PEC is looking for a creative coding-capable engineer or computer scientist to support the development of novel ML algorithms that address the unique engineering challenges of our military and civilian clients.  Preferred areas of expertise include data engineering, machine learning, data visualization, and computer vision. Other areas of value include deep learning, database management, cloud computing, and knowledge of version control systems (e.g., Git Lab). Project work can be highly varied; the position demands flexibility, cleverness, and autodidactic learning.  The successful candidate will be proficient with Python and be able to develop novel solutions from prototyping through software integration.

As we continue to expand our services, PEC is looking for an eager and coding-capable engineer or computer scientist intern to support the development of novel ML algorithms that address the unique engineering challenges of our military and civilian clients. Candidates should display advanced problem-solving skills and a knack for implementing solutions to complex technical problems. This role will require strong data analysis abilities, experience with programming/scripting languages (Python), and excellent verbal/written communication skills. As project work can be highly variable, this position requires flexibility, cleverness, and autodidactic learning.

The responsibilities of this role will involve providing support for our current data science and machine learning efforts. Other opportunities to learn/bolster skills in version control, unit testing, software packaging, and marketing will become available as interests dictate.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing B.S. or graduate degree in Data Science, Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 3.5 GPA or above.
  • Experience using Python (C++, SQL, and Ruby a plus).
  • Ability to clearly communicate verbal and written technical information.
  • Availability in Summer months (duration ~3 months)
  • Ability to work from Dripping Springs or San Antonio office (remote work is a possibility)
