SOFTWARE & TOOLS
OpenFOAM
OpenFOAM is a free, open-source computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software that offers an extensive range of features to solve anything from complex fluid flows involving chemical reactions, turbulence, and heat transfer, to acoustics, solid mechanics, and electromagnetics. OpenFOAM also offers the capability to perform 3-dimensional shock physics calculations for predicting blast loads in complex geometrical environments.
At PEC, we leverage OpenFOAM to quantify shock and gas pressures from detonations occurring in urban terrains and within confined (partially vented) areas. We also use OpenFOAM’s RANS and LES solvers to characterize wind loads on geometrically complex building facades and to support wind tunnel testing.
