Logan Thomas joined Protection Engineering Consultants (PEC) in August of 2019. He graduated summa cum laude from Palm Beach Atlantic University with the highest honors in Mathematics. Logan later went on to complete his Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Statistics from the University of Florida. Prior to his work at PEC, Logan served as a Lead Data Scientist in the Media and Advertising industry. His general areas of expertise include programming, machine learning, data engineering, and big data analytics.
Logan is proficient in Python, Apache Spark, SQL, R, and Git. He specializes in scientific computing in Python and is skilled in the entire ecosystem (SciPy, NumPy, Pandas, Scikit Learn, PyMC, SymPy, and more). Logan also has experience with deep learning frameworks (TensorFlow and Keras) as well as parallel computing using Apache Spark, Joblib, and Amazon Web Services (AWS).
Logan’s extensive background in developing machine learning models includes: Linear Regression, Logistic Regression, Decision Tree Classifiers, Random Forest Classifiers, Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost), Adaptive Boosting (ADABoost), and Natural Language Processing (NLP). He has also deployed algorithms based on mathematical concepts that include graph theory, network analysis, convex optimization, and outlier detection. In addition, Logan is well versed in synthesizing complex data into actionable insights through feature engineering and data pipelining. He has experience using techniques like k-dimensional trees and clustering (K-Means, Louvain Community, Adaptive Affinity Propagation) to analyze and summarize noisy datasets.
Since joining PEC, Logan has worked with the Advanced Technology + Research (AT+R) Team to assist in the development of robust, scalable, and efficient software solutions. He provides support for data science, machine learning, genetic programming, symbolic regression and other engineering analytics needs.
